What are you doing?
This question has brought millions and millions of users all over the world to share answer this question through a unique invention. Twitter is a micro-blogging service that allows the user the send in updates called tweets through the internet or SMS,
Mind you, tweeting is not only the ordinary joes who have been bitten by the bug. David Archuleta, Tom Felton, Mar Roxas, and even 2NE1, the latest Korean Pop craze, have now entered Twitter mania. Name anyone you can think of and for sure, they are broadcasting what they are doing right now.
At first, I thought this was going to be another pathetic photocopy of Myspace or Facebook and attempt to reach the same level of fame as what these pioneer social networking sites have. I couldn’t even imagine myself sign up for this because it’s pretty stupid to tell everyone on your list that you are eating Banana Cue or your bad constipation because no one cares about it.
But I have to admit, I was wrong.
The bug has taken a bite and has invaded my computer since June, and it has infiltrated my system fast.
Shout out to Mar Roxas
My first few tweets include the shallow updates such as how stuffy my nose was or how Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince rocked my socks or what are my plans for the week. It was for a personal reason, and it’s quite fun telling everyone what have you been up to recently.
Then, I decided to follow Mar Roxas, TJ Manotoc and a few Hollywood celebrities, so I could stalk them without being unethical and too desperate.
A user with a radical outlook towards politics and following the updates of Mar Roxas is never a smart move to make it come together. The user could end up literally criticizing Roxas’ every tweet. Just like what I did last time.
Another tweeter asked Mar if he would win the presidential race in 2010, what would be his first action. And his reply was, quoting from his site, “We (family, cabinet & high government officials) will sign a waiver of the bank secrecy law. This may not be an absolute answer to corruption, but it’s a first big step to show the people that the administration will be transparent and will not be afraid to be questioned.”
It could be just my radical perception or simply my annoyance with him that pushed me to answer. I typed a reply proudly and said, “A bank secrecy law that can create transparency is good; however please make it appoint that it is promulgated accordingly. After all, well done is always better than well said.”
Secretly, it’s a bit of suspense whether he will answer in a barbarical or intelligent manner. Still, I’m waiting for a reply right now, even if he has already backed out of the presidential race.
TJ Manotoc Replies and Remembers
A few days ago, without expecting a reply, I’ve decided to try to send TJ Manotoc a tweet and ask if he still remembered me from my interview with him on the 9th State of the Nation Address of President Arroyo last July 29, 2009.
It was simply for taking a chance that maybe TJ really did remember me, despite his busy schedule and the time passed.
I sent a tweet saying, “I hope you still remember me. I was one of those who interviewed you during PGMA’s 9th SONA. :)”
And today, I checked his twitter account and surprisingly, there was a reply for me! It could be just a lucky day or because he was kind enough to entertain anyone who would approach him. And he said in his reply, “Yes! In the rain beside the OB Van! =)”
Twitter on a different outlook
Now, people tweet for various reasons. It could be keeping in touch with their loved ones or keeping a “close” eye on their idols or simply for the sake of information, Twitter has given a whole new meaning to quick as a bullet.
Looking at this fad on the lame perspective alone makes the site pathetic. However, seeing the other means as for the lightning speed of updates and the convenience of this service, it proves that Twitter really deserves to be catching up to the leading social networking sites of 2009.
This feature article has been submitted to my professor, and perhaps tantamount for being published in the Herald News Magazine, our group’s newspaper, on a column entitled Metro Drift.
Dear blogmates, sorry for not updating ASAP. Thesis, newspaper and the college paper is waiting for me this month — and it’s stealing all the attention from my blog. I’m sorry everyone.
BTW, I’d just like to share that I’ve been up to no-good recording songs recently.
It’s just for the sake of tripping. I’m not claiming that I’m a good musician, but hey — it’s a democratic country so bear with it.
